DIGEST 

Currently, Section 292.006, Local Government Code, sets forth the duties of
the county clerk in a branch office.  This bill would revise the duties of
a county clerk in a branch office. 

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 1022 revises the duties of a county clerk in a branch
office. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Section 292.006, Local Government Code, as follows:

Sec.  292.006.  New heading: BRANCH OFFICE OF COUNTY CLERK.   Authorizes
the county clerk to authorize one or more of the clerk's deputies to work
in the branch office to conduct any business as determined by the county
clerk.  Deletes text authorizing the commissioners court of a county to
provide, operate, and maintain one or more branch offices at any place in
the county for the sole purpose of issuing marriage licenses.  Deletes text
regarding marriage applications. 

SECTION 2. Emergency clause.
  Effective date: upon passage.
