During the 75th Legislative Session, 99 parcels of land located directly
north of the University of Texas--Pan American at Edinburg (UTPA) were
authorized for purchase by UTPA. S.B. 1420 would authorize the purchase of
certain other parcels of land by UTPA without the approval of The Higher
Education Coordinating Board.
PURPOSE
As proposed, S.B. 1420 authorizes the board of regents of The University of
Texas System to acquire by purchase, exchange, gift, or otherwise certain
properties to be used for campus expansion and university purposes in The
University of Texas System.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency.
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Authorizes the Board of Regents of The University of Texas
System to acquire by purchase, exchange, gift, or otherwise certain
properties to be used for campus expansion and university purposes in The
University of Texas System. Sets forth descriptions of the parcels of
land.
SECTION 2. Emergency clause.
Effective date: upon passage.
