DIGEST

Currently, Texas law grants mandatory contracts for Medicaid managed care
to certain public hospitals, as the major public safety net institutions
that have traditionally cared for Medicaid families and children. For many
years, the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is one of these
institutions who have served uninsured families. An important mission of
UTMB is to provide health care for families who cannot afford it. S.B. 1499
would grant UTMB certain contracts for Medicaid managed care.

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 1499 regulates contracts for Medicaid managed care.
