DIGEST 

Currently, persons who chose to avoid a traffic ticket by taking a
defensive driving course pay a $10 fee and $50 court costs.  If a ticket is
appealed to a higher court, the total cost is $10 for a misdemeanor traffic
violation.  S.B. 1567 creates a maximum $50 administration fee for a person
who requests to take a certain defensive driving course in the process of
avoiding a traffic ticket. 

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 1567 creates maximum $50 administration fee for a person
who requests to take a course under Section 543.104, Transportation Code. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 543.106(a), Transportation Code, to specify that
Section 543.103, Transportation Code, governs certain aspects of a driving
safety course (course).  Authorizes the court to require a person
requesting a course under Section 543.104, Transportation Code, to pay a
maximum $50 administration fee, including other fees. 

SECTION 2.  Emergency clause.
  Effective date:  upon passage.
