SRC-JJJ S.B. 1606 76(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1606 By: Whitmire Intergovernmental Relations 3/29/1999 As Filed DIGEST Currently, the directors of a sports and community venue district are appointed by the mayors or county judges, or both. S.B. 1006 would require the confirmation of appointments of directors to be confirmed by governing bodies and the appointments made by the county judge. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 1606 establishes conditions regarding municipal governing body confirmation of appointments to a venue district board. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 335.031(b), Government Code, to require the appointments by the mayors of municipalities to be subject to confirmation by the municipalities' governing bodies. SECTION 2. Emergency clause. Effective date: 90 days upon adjournment.
