S.B. 1719 redesigns the calculation procedure for determining the salaries of retired and former judges, effectively basing a retired or former judge's salary on 85 percent of a regular judge's salary, or a greater percentage of that salary, not to exceed 100 percent. PURPOSE As enrolled, S.B. 1719 redesigns the calculation procedure for determining the salary of a retired judge or justice assigned to a district court, to increase the salary, but not allow it to equal a current judge's salary. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Sections 74.061(h) and (i), Government Code, to redesign the calculation procedure for determining the salary of a retired judge or justice based on 85 percent of the regular judge's salary, or a greater percentage of that salary, not to exceed 100 percent. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1999. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
