SRC-AXB S.B. 1781 76(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1781 By: Fraser Jurisprudence 4/16/1999 As Filed DIGEST Currently, the district attorney for the 33rd judicial district, which includes Blanco, Burnet, Llano, Mason, and San Saba counties, is not under the Professional Prosecutors Act. Being subject to the Professional Prosecutors Act would entitle the 33rd district attorney to a salary and benefits increase of $21,855. Office expenses of a multi-county district attorney not under the Professional Prosecutors Act, such as the 33rd district attorney, are equivalent to the office expenses of a district attorney under the Professional Prosecutors Act. S.B. 1781 places the 33rd judicial district attorney under the Professional Prosecutors Act. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 1781 places the 33rd judicial district attorney under the Professional Prosecutors Act. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 46.002(1), Government Code, to include 33rd judicial district prosecutors in a list of professional prosecutors regulated by Chapter 46, Government Code. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1999. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
