DIGEST 

Currently, the Government Code excepts from public disclosure, contact
information of Texas peace officers, and information regarding their
families.  However, if the peace officer should be killed in the line of
duty, that exception ceases to be extended to the deceased and the family
of the deceased. S.B. 1846 creates an exception from disclosure of certain
personal information regarding a peace officer killed in the line of duty. 

PURPOSE

As enrolled, S.B. 1846 extends the public information disclosure exception
to peace officers who are killed in the line of duty. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 552.117, Government Code, to include in a list
of individuals whose personal and contact information is excepted from
required public disclosure:  peace officers, reserve law enforcement
officers, commissioned deputy game wardens, and certain corrections
officers, who are killed in the line of duty, regardless of whether these
deceased individuals complied with Section 552.024, Government Code.  Makes
a conforming change. 

SECTION 2.Makes application of this Act retroactive.

SECTION 3.  Emergency clause.
  Effective date:  upon passage.
