DIGEST

Currently, the Centro Alameda/Centro de Artes Latino Museum is being
developed in San Antonio. Located in San Antonio's historic Market Square,
the museum will be a hub for research, education, and programming related
to Hispanic culture in the United States. It will showcase the distinctive
Latino cultural experience, as well as provide a museum studies program and
a theater arts program. Several groups are making the museum a reality.
The City of San Antonio has donated $1.5 million toward the project; the
University of Texas at San Antonio is collaborating to create the museum
and theater arts program; and the Smithsonian Institution of Washington, in
its first affiliation, will exchange exhibition items with the museum.
With national and local partnerships already secured, state participation
ensures this initiative will benefit a diverse number of Texans. S.C.R. 42
designates the Centro Alameda/Centro de Artes Latino Museum as the official
Texas State Latino Museum.

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.C.R. 42 submits the following resolution:

That the 76th Legislature support the museum's contribution to the state's
culturally rich history by designating the museum as the official Texas
State Latino Museum; and

That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for prominent display
at the museum.
