SRC-JBJ S.C.R. 75 76(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.C.R. 75 76R14563 EFD-FBy: Lucio Border Affairs - Special 5/11/1999 As Filed DIGEST Currently, the State of Texas operates the South Texas Hospital in Harlingen. This institution provides health care services to indigent patients in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The state funding matches federal grants through a Medicaid program. The funding has increased the resources available to provide health care services. However, the facilities of the hospital are in need of renovation. PURPOSE As proposed, S.C.R. 75 submits the following resolution: That the 76th Legislature urges the U.S. Congress to qualify the contribution made by the state for eligible inpatient hospital services provided by contract in the lower Rio Grande Valley for federal matching funds under the Medicaid disproportionate share hospital program. That the secretary of state forward an official copy of this resolution to the president of the United States, to the speaker of the house of representatives, and to all members of the Texas delegation to the congress with the request that this resolution be officially entered in the Congressional Record as a memorial to the U.S. Congress.
