DIGEST

Currently, the State of Texas operates the South Texas Hospital in
Harlingen. This institution provides health care services to indigent
patients in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The state funding matches federal
grants through a Medicaid program. The funding has increased the resources
available to provide health care services. However, the facilities of the
hospital are in need of renovation.

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.C.R. 75 submits the following resolution:

That the 76th Legislature urges the U.S. Congress to qualify the
contribution made by the state for eligible inpatient hospital services
provided by contract in the lower Rio Grande Valley for federal matching
funds under the Medicaid disproportionate share hospital program.

That the secretary of state forward an official copy of this resolution to
the president of the United States, to the speaker of the house of
representatives, and to all members of the Texas delegation to the congress
with the request that this resolution be officially entered in the
Congressional Record as a memorial to the U.S. Congress.
