                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the manner in which salaries are paid to certain
 1-3     educational aides employed by school districts.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 22, Education Code, is
 1-6     amended by adding Section 22.006 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 22.006.  SALARY PAYMENT TO EDUCATIONAL AIDE.  A school
 1-8     district shall pay an educational aide employed under a contract
 1-9     with the district the salary designated in the contract in 12 equal
1-10     monthly installments if the employee chooses to be paid in that
1-11     manner.
1-12           SECTION 2.  Section 22.006, Education Code, as added by this
1-13     Act, applies only to a salary payment to an educational aide for
1-14     the 1999-2000 or a subsequent school year.
1-15           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-16     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-17     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-18     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-19     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-20     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
1-21     passage, and it is so enacted.
