No. 510 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House March 29, 1999; 1-3 March 30, 1999, read first time and referred to Committee on State 1-4 Affairs; April 30, 1999, reported favorably by the following vote: 1-5 Yeas 8, Nays 0; April 30, 1999, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the composition of the Commission on Uniform State 1-9 Laws. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Section 762.003(a), Government Code, is amended 1-12 to read as follows: 1-13 (a) The commission is composed of: 1-14 (1) six members appointed by the governor; and 1-15 (2) residents of this state who, because of long 1-16 service in the cause of uniformity in state legislation, have been 1-17 elected life members of the national conference or who have at 1-18 least 15 years of service as a member of the commission and at 1-19 least five years of combined service as a judge or justice of a 1-20 trial or appellate court of this state. 1-21 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-22 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-23 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-24 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-25 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-26 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-27 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-28 * * * * *
