 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to the services included in home health care services.
 1-9           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-10           SECTION 1.  Section 142.001(12), Health and Safety Code, is
1-11     amended to read as follows:
1-12                 (12)  "Home health service" means the provision of one
1-13     or more of the following health services required by an individual
1-14     in a residence or independent living environment:
1-15                       (A)  nursing, including blood pressure monitoring
1-16     and diabetes treatment;
1-17                       (B)  physical, occupational, speech, or
1-18     respiratory therapy;
1-19                       (C)  medical social service;
1-20                       (D)  intravenous therapy;
1-21                       (E)  dialysis;
1-22                       (F)  service provided by unlicensed personnel
1-23     under the delegation of a licensed health professional;
1-24                       (G)  the furnishing of medical equipment and
1-25     supplies, excluding drugs and medicines; or
1-26                       (H)  nutritional counseling.
1-27           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.
1-28           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-29     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-30     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-31     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-32     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
