                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to attendance in public schools of persons over 18 years
 1-3 of age.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Section 25.085, Education Code, is amended by
1-6 adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
1-7 (e) A person who voluntarily enrolls in school or
1-8 voluntarily attends school after the person's 18th birthday shall
1-9 attend school each school day for the entire period the program of
1-10 instruction is offered. A school district shall revoke for the
1-11 remainder of the school year the enrollment of a person who
1-12 violates this subsection. A person whose enrollment is revoked
1-13 under this subsection may be considered an unauthorized person on
1-14 school district grounds for purposes of Section 37.107.
1-15 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 1999-2000
1-16 school year.
1-17 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-18 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-19 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-20 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-21 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-22 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
1-23 passage, and it is so enacted.
