                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the notice provided to local law enforcement agencies
 1-3     regarding the issuance of a license to carry a concealed handgun.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 411.178, Government Code, is amended to
 1-6     read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 411.178.  NOTICE TO LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT.  [If the
 1-8     department issues a license, the department shall notify the
 1-9     sheriff of the county in which the license holder resides that a
1-10     license has been issued to the license holder.]  On request of a
1-11     local law enforcement agency, the department shall notify the
1-12     agency of the licenses that have been issued to license holders who
1-13     reside in the county in which the agency is located.
1-14           SECTION 2.  Section 411.181(f), Government Code, is amended
1-15     to read as follows:
1-16           (f)  [The department shall notify the sheriff of the county
1-17     in which a license holder resides of a change made under Subsection
1-18     (a) by the license holder.]  On request of a local law enforcement
1-19     agency, the department shall notify the agency of changes made
1-20     under Subsection (a) by license holders who reside in the county in
1-21     which the agency is located.
1-22           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.
1-23           SECTION 4.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-24     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
 2-1     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
 2-2     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
 2-3     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
