                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to enrollment of expelled students in school districts.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Section 37.010(g), Education Code, is amended to
 1-5 read as follows:
1-6 (g) If an expelled student enrolls in another school
1-7 district, the board of trustees of the district that expelled the
1-8 student shall provide to the district in which the student enrolls,
1-9 at the same time other records of the student are provided, a copy
1-10 of the expulsion order and the referral to the authorized officer
1-11 of the juvenile court. The district in which the student enrolls
1-12 shall [may] continue the expulsion under the terms of the order[,
1-13 may place the student in an alternative education program for the
1-14 period specified by the expulsion order, or may allow the student
1-15 to attend regular classes without completing the period of
1-16 expulsion].
1-17 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 1999-2000
1-18 school year.
1-19 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-20 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-21 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-22 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-23 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-24 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-1 passage, and it is so enacted.
