1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to providing a parent with a copy of a special education 1-3 student's education plan translated into the parent's native 1-4 language. 1-5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-6 SECTION 1. Section 29.005, Education Code, is amended by 1-7 adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: 1-8 (d) If the child's parent is unable to speak English, the 1-9 district shall: 1-10 (1) provide the parent with a written or audiotaped 1-11 copy of the child's individualized education program translated 1-12 into Spanish if Spanish is the parent's native language; or 1-13 (2) if the parent's native language is a language 1-14 other than Spanish, make a good faith effort to provide the parent 1-15 with a written or audiotaped copy of the child's individualized 1-16 education program translated into the parent's native language. 1-17 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-18 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-19 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-20 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-21 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-22 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-23 passage, and it is so enacted. _______________________________ _______________________________ President of the Senate Speaker of the House I certify that H.B.
