By Hochberg H.B. No. 1314 76R5450 JSA-F A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to authorizing The University of Texas M. D. Anderson 1-3 Cancer Center to offer certain professional degree programs. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 73.102, Education Code, is amended to 1-6 read as follows: 1-7 Sec. 73.102. PURPOSE; DEGREE PROGRAMS. (a) The institution 1-8 and its substations shall be devoted to the diagnosis, teaching, 1-9 study, prevention, and treatment of neoplastic and allied diseases. 1-10 (b) The board of regents may prescribe courses and conduct 1-11 allied health professional degree programs related to the purposes 1-12 of the institution described by Subsection (a). The degree 1-13 programs to be offered are subject to approval by the Texas Higher 1-14 Education Coordinating Board. 1-15 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-16 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-17 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-18 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-19 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-20 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-21 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-22 COMMITTEE AMENDMENT NO. 1 1-23 Amend H.B. 1314 as follows: 1-24 (1) In Section 1, on page 1, line 10, immediately 2-1 after "(b)" insert "If the Texas Higher Education Coordinating 2-2 Board determines that the role and mission of the institution 2-3 should be changed to include degree-granting authority,". 2-4 (2) In Section 1, on page 1, lines 13 and 14, strike 2-5 "Texas Higher Education". 2-6 Goolsby
