No. 1843 76R7054 DLF-D A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to a suit to abate certain conduct of criminal street 1-3 gangs and similar entities. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 125, Civil Practice and 1-6 Remedies Code, is amended by adding Section 125.0675 to read as 1-7 follows: 1-8 Sec. 125.0675. INJUNCTION FOR SPECIFIED PERIOD. In addition 1-9 to any other order that may be issued under this subchapter or 1-10 other law, a court of appeals or a trial court acting under Section 1-11 125.067(b) or (c) may issue an injunctive order under this 1-12 subchapter that expires not later than the 180th day after the date 1-13 a temporary injunctive order is issued under Section 125.065. 1-14 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999. 1-15 SECTION 3. This Act applies only to an action brought under 1-16 Subchapter D, Chapter 125, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, as 1-17 amended by this Act, that is commenced on or after the effective 1-18 date of this Act. An action that is commenced before the effective 1-19 date of this Act is governed by the law applicable to the suit 1-20 immediately before the effective date of this Act, and that law is 1-21 continued in effect for that purpose. 1-22 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the 1-23 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-24 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 2-1 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 2-2 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
