1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the appointment of a bailiff for certain counties in
 1-3 the 84th Judicial District.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Section 53.002, Government Code, is amended by
1-6 adding Subsection (h) to read as follows:
1-7 (h) The judge of the 84th District Court may appoint a
1-8 bailiff to serve the court in Hansford and Hutchinson counties.
1-9 SECTION 2. Section 53.009(k), Government Code, is amended to
1-10 read as follows:
1-11 (k) The bailiffs of the 12th, 84th, 258th, and 278th
1-12 district courts are entitled to receive a salary set by the judge
1-13 and approved by the commissioners court of each of the counties in
1-14 which the bailiff is designated to serve, except that the amount of
1-15 the salary paid the bailiff of the 84th District Court must be
1-16 commensurate with the salary paid the bailiffs of other courts with
1-17 similar duties. The salary shall be apportioned by the judge among
1-18 the counties in which the bailiff is designated to serve. The
1-19 judge shall give each commissioners court in the district written
1-20 notification of the amount of compensation to be paid by the
1-21 county. The salary is paid out of the general fund of each county.
1-22 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-23 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-24 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-1 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-2 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
2-3 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-4 passage, and it is so enacted.
