By Maxey H.B. No. 1930 76R7203 DRH-D A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to insurance provided by or through certain development 1-3 corporations created by certain political subdivisions. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 23, Development Corporation Act of 1979 1-6 (Article 5190.6, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is amended by 1-7 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: 1-8 (c) A corporation created by a unit under this Act may 1-9 obtain with the consent of the unit the following kinds of 1-10 insurance coverage through the unit's insurance coverage, including 1-11 any self-funded insurance coverage or insurance coverage provided 1-12 under an interlocal agreement: 1-13 (1) health benefits coverage for the corporation's 1-14 directors or employees or their dependents; 1-15 (2) workers' compensation coverage for the 1-16 corporation's directors, employees, and volunteers; 1-17 (3) liability coverage to protect the corporation, its 1-18 directors, and employees; and 1-19 (4) property coverage to protect the corporation. 1-20 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-21 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-22 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-23 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-24 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 2-1 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 2-2 passage, and it is so enacted.
