No. 1997 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 3, 1999; 1-3 May 4, 1999, read first time and referred to Committee on Economic 1-4 Development; May 14, 1999, reported favorably by the following 1-5 vote: Yeas 4, Nays 0; May 14, 1999, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to installation, repair, or removal of certain vent hoods. 1-9 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-10 SECTION 1. Section 6, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration 1-11 Contractor License Law (Article 8861, Vernon's Texas Civil 1-12 Statutes), is amended by adding Subsection (h) to read as follows: 1-13 (h) This Act does not apply to a person who installs, 1-14 repairs, or removes a vent hood of the type commonly used in 1-15 residential and commercial kitchens. 1-16 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately and applies 1-17 only to the installation, repair, or removal of a vent hood that 1-18 occurs on or after the effective date of this Act. Installations, 1-19 repairs, and removals of vent hoods that occur before the effective 1-20 date of this Act are governed by the law in effect on the day the 1-21 installation, repair, or removal occurred, and that law is 1-22 continued in effect for that purpose. 1-23 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-24 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-25 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-26 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-27 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-28 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-29 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-30 * * * * *
