1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to an exemption from investment training for officers and
 1-3     employees of emergency services and rural fire prevention
 1-4     districts.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 775, Health and Safety
 1-7     Code, is amended by adding Section 775.041 to read as follows:
 1-8           Sec. 775.041.  EXEMPTION FROM INVESTMENT TRAINING.  (a)
 1-9     Section 2256.008, Government Code, does not apply to an officer or
1-10     employee of a district created under this chapter.
1-11           (b)  A district may invest funds only in the authorized
1-12     investments set forth under Government Code Section 2256.009
1-13     (obligations of, or guaranteed by governmental entities), 2256.010
1-14     (certificates of deposit and share certificates), or 2256.016
1-15     (investment pools), unless the treasurer, chief financial officer
1-16     (if not the treasurer), and the investment officer of the district
1-17     attend and successfully complete the training requirements under
1-18     Section 2256.008, Government Code.
1-19           SECTION 2.  Subchapter C, Chapter 794, Health and Safety
1-20     Code, is amended by adding Section 794.038 to read as follows:
1-21           Sec. 794.038.  EXEMPTION FROM INVESTMENT TRAINING.  (a)
1-22     Section 2256.008, Government Code, does not apply to an officer or
1-23     employee of a district created under this chapter.
1-24           (b)  A district may invest funds only in the authorized
 2-1     investments set forth under Government Code Section 2256.009
 2-2     (obligations of, or guaranteed by governmental entities), 2256.010
 2-3     (certificates of deposit and share certificates), or 2256.016
 2-4     (investment pools), unless the treasurer, chief financial officer
 2-5     (if not the treasurer), and the investment officer of the district
 2-6     attend and successfully complete the training requirements under
 2-7     Section 2256.008, Government Code.
 2-8           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
 2-9     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
2-10     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-11     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-12     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
2-13     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-14     passage, and it is so enacted.
