                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the evaluation of medical and health care services
 1-3     provided by the Nueces County Hospital District.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 281, Health and Safety
 1-6     Code, is amended by adding Section 281.058 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 281.058.  MEDICAL PEER REVIEW COMMITTEE.  (a)  The
 1-8     Nueces County Hospital District may form a medical peer review
 1-9     committee, as defined by Section 1.03, Medical Practice Act
1-10     (Article 4495b, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), to evaluate medical
1-11     and health care services provided by the district.
1-12           (b)  The provisions of the Medical Practice Act (Article
1-13     4495b, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes) that apply to a medical peer
1-14     review committee and to a "health-care entity," as that term is
1-15     defined by that Act, apply to the medical peer review committee
1-16     formed under this section and to the district.
1-17           (c)  This section does not impose liability or waive any
1-18     common law, statutory, or other immunity of the Nueces County
1-19     Hospital District.
1-20           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-21     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-22     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-23     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-24     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
 2-1     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
 2-2     passage, and it is so enacted.
