 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to traffic offenses occurring in a construction or
 1-9     maintenance work zone.
1-10           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11           SECTION 1.  Section 472.022(e)(2), Transportation Code, is
1-12     amended to read as follows:
1-13                 (2)  "Construction or maintenance work zone" means a
1-14     portion of a highway or street:
1-15                       (A)  where highway construction or maintenance is
1-16     being undertaken, other than mobile operations as defined by the
1-17     Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices; and
1-18                       (B)  that is marked by [one or more] signs
1-19     indicating that it is a construction or maintenance work zone and
1-20     indicating where the zone begins and ends.
1-21           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.
1-22           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-23     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-24     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-25     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-26     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
