1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to appropriations to historical foundations by certain
 1-3     counties.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 318.021, Local Government Code, is
 1-6     amended to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 318.021.  APPROPRIATIONS TO HISTORICAL FOUNDATIONS:
 1-8     COUNTIES WITH POPULATION OF 191,500 TO 600,000 [200,000].
 1-9                      The commissioners court of a county with a
1-10     population of 191,500 to 600,000 [200,000] may appropriate money
1-11     from the general fund of the county to a historical foundation or
1-12     organization in the county for the purpose of purchasing,
1-13     constructing, restoring, preserving, maintaining, or reconstructing
1-14     historical landmarks, buildings, and furnishings that are of
1-15     historical significance to the county.  The foundation or
1-16     organization must be incorporated under the law of this state as a
1-17     nonprofit corporation.
1-18           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-19     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-20     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-21     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-22     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-23     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
1-24     passage, and it is so enacted.
