 1-7                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-8                                   AN ACT
 1-9     relating to appropriations to historical foundations by certain
1-10     counties.
1-11           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-12           SECTION 1.  Section 318.021, Local Government Code, is
1-13     amended to read as follows:
1-14           Sec. 318.021.  APPROPRIATIONS TO HISTORICAL FOUNDATIONS:
1-15     COUNTIES WITH POPULATION OF 191,500 TO 600,000 [200,000].
1-16                      The commissioners court of a county with a
1-17     population of 191,500 to 600,000 [200,000] may appropriate money
1-18     from the general fund of the county to a historical foundation or
1-19     organization in the county for the purpose of purchasing,
1-20     constructing, restoring, preserving, maintaining, or reconstructing
1-21     historical landmarks, buildings, and furnishings that are of
1-22     historical significance to the county.  The foundation or
1-23     organization must be incorporated under the law of this state as a
1-24     nonprofit corporation.
1-25           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-26     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-27     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-28     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-29     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-30     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
1-31     passage, and it is so enacted.
