No. 2663 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House April 19, 1999; 1-3 April 20, 1999, read first time and referred to Committee on 1-4 Intergovernmental Relations; May 13, 1999, reported favorably by 1-5 the following vote: Yeas 4, Nays 0; May 13, 1999, sent to 1-6 printer.) 1-7 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-8 AN ACT 1-9 relating to permitting a commissioners court to authorize payment 1-10 of certain continuing education expenses incurred by elected county 1-11 and precinct officers. 1-12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-13 SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 152, Local Government Code, 1-14 is amended by adding Section 152.907 to read as follows: 1-15 Sec. 152.907. CONTINUING EDUCATION EXPENSES FOR COUNTY AND 1-16 PRECINCT OFFICERS. The commissioners court of a county may 1-17 authorize payment of reasonable continuing education expenses 1-18 incurred by a county or precinct officer if the expenses are 1-19 related to the officer's official duties, including expenses 1-20 incurred by the officer between the general election at which the 1-21 officer is elected and the beginning of the officer's term of 1-22 office. 1-23 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-24 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-25 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-26 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-27 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-28 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-29 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-30 * * * * *
