                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the name of an interchange at U.S. Highway 83-U.S.
 1-3     Highway 84 and Loop 322, Abilene, Taylor County, Texas.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Title 116, Revised Statutes, is amended by adding
 1-6     Article 6673e-17 to read as follows:
 1-7           Art. 6673e-17.  SAM WALDROP HIGHWAY INTERCHANGE
 1-8           Sec. 1.  DESIGNATION OF HIGHWAY INTERCHANGE.  The interchange
 1-9     in Abilene, Taylor County, Texas of U.S. Highway 83, U.S.  Highway
1-10     84 and Loop 322 in the East portion of Abilene in Taylor County,
1-11     Texas, is designated the Sam Waldrop Interchange.
1-12           Sec. 2.  MARKERS.  (a)  The State Department of Highways and
1-13     Public Transportation shall design and construct markers to be
1-14     placed along and at the location of that portion of U.S. Highway
1-15     83, U.S. Highway 84 and Loop 322 described in Section 1 of this
1-16     article indicating its designation as the Sam Waldrop Interchange.
1-17           (b)  The markers shall include the name of the interchange
1-18     and any other information that the department determines is
1-19     appropriate.
1-20           (c)  Markers shall be erected at each end of the interchange
1-21     and at intermediate sites that the department determines are
1-22     appropriate.
1-23           (d)  The department is responsible for repair and replacement
1-24     of the markers and for maintenance of the grounds surrounding each
 2-1     marker.
 2-2           (e)  The department may accept grants and donations from
 2-3     individuals and other entities to assist in financing the
 2-4     construction and maintenance of the markers.
 2-5           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
 2-6     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
 2-7     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
 2-8     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
 2-9     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
2-10     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-11     passage, and it is so enacted.
