                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to designating the ferry landings at Port Aransas and
 1-3     Aransas Pass as the Melvin O. Littleton Ferry Landings.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 342, Transportation Code,
 1-6     is amended by adding Section 342.002 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 342.002.  MELVIN O. LITTLETON FERRY LANDINGS.  (a)  In
 1-8     recognition of Melvin O. Littleton's outstanding supervision of the
 1-9     Port Aransas ferry for 30 years, the ferry landings owned by the
1-10     department in Port Aransas and Aransas Pass are each designated as
1-11     a Melvin O. Littleton Ferry Landing.
1-12           (b)  The department shall design and construct memorial
1-13     markers at the ferry landings in Port Aransas and Aransas Pass
1-14     indicating the designation as a Melvin O. Littleton Ferry Landing
1-15     and any other appropriate information.
1-16           (c)  The department shall repair and replace each marker
1-17     required by this section and maintain the grounds for the marker.
1-18           (d)  The department may accept a grant or donation to assist
1-19     in financing the construction and maintenance of a marker.
1-20           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.
1-21           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-22     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-23     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-24     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
 2-1     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
