 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to designating the ferry landing at Port Aransas as the
 1-9     Melvin O. Littleton Ferry Landing.
1-10           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11           SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 342, Transportation Code,
1-12     is amended by adding Section 342.003 to read as follows:
1-13           Sec. 342.003.  MELVIN O. LITTLETON FERRY LANDING.  (a)  In
1-14     recognition of Melvin O. Littleton's outstanding supervision of the
1-15     Port Aransas ferry for 30 years, the ferry landing owned by the
1-16     department in Port Aransas is designated as the Melvin O. Littleton
1-17     Ferry Landing.
1-18           (b)  The department shall design and construct a memorial
1-19     marker at the ferry landing in Port Aransas indicating the
1-20     designation as the Melvin O. Littleton Ferry Landing and any other
1-21     appropriate information.
1-22           (c)  The department shall repair and replace the marker
1-23     required by this section and maintain the grounds for the marker.
1-24           (d)  The department may accept a grant or donation to assist
1-25     in financing the construction and maintenance of a marker.
1-26           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.
1-27           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-28     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-29     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-30     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-31     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
