                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to burials in the State Cemetery.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4 SECTION 1. Subsection (e), Section 2165.256, Government
1-5 Code, is amended to read as follows:
1-6 (e) The committee shall review proclamations under
 1-7 Subsection (d)(4) and resolutions under Subsection (d)(5). A
1-8 person specified in a proclamation or resolution is eligible for
1-9 burial in the State Cemetery only if the committee, following its
1-10 review, finds that the person specified made a significant
1-11 contribution to Texas history and only if, based on that finding,
1-12 the committee approves the person's burial in the cemetery. [The
1-13 committee may by order authorize a burial under Subsection (d)(6)
1-14 only during a period in which the legislature is not convened in
1-15 regular or special session and only if the committee finds that the
1-16 person made a significant contribution to Texas history.]
1-17 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.
1-18 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-19 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-20 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-21 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-1 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
