                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to confessions obtained under the laws of another state.
 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1.  Article 38.22, Code of Criminal Procedure, is
 1-5     amended by adding Section 8 to read as follows:
 1-6           Sec. 8.  Any written, oral, or sign language statement of an
 1-7     accused made as a result of a custodial interrogation and lawfully
 1-8     obtained under the laws of another state is admissible against the
 1-9     accused in a criminal proceeding in this state.
1-10           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.
1-11           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-12     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-13     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-14     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-15     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
