No. 3176 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 10, 1999; 1-3 May 10, 1999, read first time and referred to Committee on 1-4 Intergovernmental Relations; May 13, 1999, reported favorably by 1-5 the following vote: Yeas 5, Nays 0; May 13, 1999, sent to 1-6 printer.) 1-7 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-8 AN ACT 1-9 relating to the jurisdiction of the County Court at Law of Parker 1-10 County. 1-11 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-12 SECTION 1. Section 25.1862(a), Government Code, is amended 1-13 to read as follows: 1-14 (a) In addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section 1-15 25.0003 and other law, a county court at law in Parker County has 1-16 concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in: 1-17 (1) civil cases in which the matter in controversy 1-18 exceeds $500 but does not exceed $500,000, excluding interest, 1-19 statutory or punitive damages and penalties, and attorney's fees 1-20 and costs, as alleged on the face of the petition; and 1-21 (2) family law cases and proceedings. 1-22 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-23 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-24 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-25 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-26 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-27 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-28 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-29 * * * * *
