                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the enforcement by contempt of a child support order.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Section 157.005(a), Family Code, is amended to
 1-5 read as follows:
1-6 (a) The court retains jurisdiction to render a contempt
1-7 order for failure to comply with the child support order if the
1-8 motion for enforcement is filed not later than the fourth
1-9 anniversary of [sixth month after] the date:
1-10 (1) the child becomes an adult; or
1-11 (2) on which the child support obligation terminates
1-12 under the order or by operation of law.
1-13 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999, and
1-14 applies only to an action to enforce a child support order that is
1-15 commenced on or after that date.
1-16 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-17 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-18 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-19 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-20 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
