                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the jurisdiction of the County Court at Law of Gregg
 1-3     County.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 25.0942(a), Government Code, is amended
 1-6     to read as follows:
 1-7           (a)  In addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section
 1-8     25.0003 and other law, a county court of law in Gregg County has,
 1-9     except as limited by Subsection (b), concurrent [jurisdiction] with
1-10     the district court, the jurisdiction  provided by the constitution
1-11     and general law for district courts [in family law cases and
1-12     proceedings].
1-13           SECTION 2.  Section 25.0942, Government Code, is amended by
1-14     adding Subsection (b) to read as follows:
1-15           (b)  A county court at law does not have jurisdiction of
1-16     felony cases involving capital murder.
1-17           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-18     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-19     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-20     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-21     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-22     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
1-23     passage, and it is so enacted.
