A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to certain bonds required of a county tax
1-3 assessor-collector.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Section 6.28(a), Tax Code, is amended to read as
1-6 follows:
1-7 (a) Before beginning to perform the duties of [To qualify
1-8 for] office, a person elected or appointed as county
1-9 assessor-collector must[, within 20 days after receiving notice of
1-10 his election or appointment,] give bonds to the state and to the
1-11 county, conditioned on the faithful performance of the person's
1-12 [his] duties as assessor-collector.
1-13 SECTION 2. Section 6.28(a), Tax Code, as amended by this
1-14 Act, applies only to a county assessor-collector who is elected or
1-15 appointed on or after the effective date of this Act. A county
1-16 assessor-collector who is elected or appointed before the effective
1-17 date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date of
1-18 the election or appointment, and that law is continued in effect
1-19 for that purpose.
1-20 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-21 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-22 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-23 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-24 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
2-1 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-2 passage, and it is so enacted.
