Bill not drafted by TLC or Senate E&E.
                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the requirements for posting a bond by a county
 1-3 assessor-collector.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Section 6.28(a), Tax Code, is amended to read as
 1-6 follows:
1-7 (a) To qualify for office, a person elected or appointed as
1-8 county assessor-collector must, before he begins to perform the
1-9 duties of office, [within 20 days after receiving notice of his
1-10 election or appointment], give bonds to the state and to the
1-11 county, conditioned on the faithful performance of his duties as
1-12 assessor-collector.
1-13 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
1-14 to a county assessor-collector who takes office on or after the
1-15 effective date of this Act. A county assessor-collector who takes
1-16 office before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law
1-17 in effect immediately before the effective date and that law is
1-18 continued in effect for that purpose.
1-19 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-20 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-21 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-1 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-2 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
2-3 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-4 passage, and it is so enacted.
