                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the establishment of the Office of District Treasurer
 1-3     of Brazos River Harbor Navigation District.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Chapter 55, Acts of the 40th Legislature, 1st
 1-6     Called Session, 1927, is amended by adding Sections 1a and 1b to
 1-7     read as follows:
 1-8           Sec. 1a.  There is hereby established the Office of District
 1-9     Treasurer of Brazos River Harbor Navigation District of Brazoria
1-10     County, which office shall be held by the person who, from time to
1-11     time, shall be appointed by the Board of Navigation and Canal
1-12     Commissioners of said Navigation District.  The Navigation District
1-13     Treasurer shall perform all duties for the District as have
1-14     previously been performed by the County Treasurer of Brazoria
1-15     County.  The Tax Assessor and Collector for Brazoria County or such
1-16     other official performing the duties of Tax Assessor and Collector
1-17     for said Navigation District shall hereafter deposit all taxes
1-18     collected for Brazos River Harbor Navigation District in the
1-19     depository bank that is, from time to time, designated as
1-20     depository for Brazoria County and forthwith transfer and deposit
1-21     said funds to the account of said District in the depository bank
1-22     that is, from time to time, designated as depository for said
1-23     Navigation District.
1-24           Sec. 1b.  Before receiving any District funds from any
 2-1     source, the District Treasurer shall execute a good and sufficient
 2-2     bond payable to the Board of Navigation and Canal Commissioners for
 2-3     the benefit of the District in an amount fixed and approved by said
 2-4     Board.
 2-5           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.
 2-6           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
 2-7     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
 2-8     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
 2-9     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-10     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
