                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the establishment of the Office of District Treasurer
 1-3     of Brazos River Harbor Navigation District.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Chapter 58, Acts of the 62nd Legislature, Page
 1-6     110, Section 1, Regular Session, 1971, is amended by adding Section
 1-7     2 and Section 3, to read as follows:
 1-8           SECTION 2.  There is hereby established the Office of
 1-9     District Treasurer of Brazos River Harbor Navigation District of
1-10     Brazoria County, which office shall be held by the person who, from
1-11     time to time, shall be appointed by the Board of Navigation and
1-12     Canal Commissioners of said Navigation District.  The Navigation
1-13     District Treasurer shall perform all duties for the District as
1-14     have previously been performed by the County Treasurer of Brazoria
1-15     County.
1-16           The Tax Assessor and Collector for Brazoria County or such
1-17     other official performing the duties of Tax Assessor and Collector
1-18     for said Navigation District shall hereafter deposit all taxes
1-19     collected for Brazos River Harbor Navigation District in the
1-20     depository bank that is, from time to time, designated as
1-21     depository for Brazoria County and forthwith transfer and deposit
1-22     said funds to the account of said District in the depository bank
1-23     that is from time to time designated as depository for said
1-24     Navigation District.
 2-1           SECTION 3.  Before receiving any District funds from any
 2-2     source, the District Treasurer shall execute a good and sufficient
 2-3     bond payable to the Board of Navigation and Canal Commissioners for
 2-4     the benefit of the District in an amount fixed and approved by said
 2-5     Board.
 2-6           SECTION 4.  Effective date of September 1, 1999.
 2-7           SECTION 5.  The importance of this legislation and the
 2-8     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
 2-9     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-10     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-11     days in the each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby
2-12     suspended.
