No. 3568 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House April 26, 1999; 1-3 April 27, 1999, read first time and referred to Committee on 1-4 Natural Resources; May 5, 1999, reported favorably by the following 1-5 vote: Yeas 5, Nays 0; May 5, 1999, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the establishment of the Office of District Treasurer 1-9 of Brazos River Harbor Navigation District. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Chapter 55, Acts of the 40th Legislature, 1st 1-12 Called Session, 1927, is amended by adding Sections 1a and 1b to 1-13 read as follows: 1-14 Sec. 1a. There is hereby established the Office of District 1-15 Treasurer of Brazos River Harbor Navigation District of Brazoria 1-16 County, which office shall be held by the person who, from time to 1-17 time, shall be appointed by the Board of Navigation and Canal 1-18 Commissioners of said Navigation District. The Navigation District 1-19 Treasurer shall perform all duties for the District as have 1-20 previously been performed by the County Treasurer of Brazoria 1-21 County. The Tax Assessor and Collector for Brazoria County or such 1-22 other official performing the duties of Tax Assessor and Collector 1-23 for said Navigation District shall hereafter deposit all taxes 1-24 collected for Brazos River Harbor Navigation District in the 1-25 depository bank that is, from time to time, designated as 1-26 depository for Brazoria County and forthwith transfer and deposit 1-27 said funds to the account of said District in the depository bank 1-28 that is, from time to time, designated as depository for said 1-29 Navigation District. 1-30 Sec. 1b. Before receiving any District funds from any 1-31 source, the District Treasurer shall execute a good and sufficient 1-32 bond payable to the Board of Navigation and Canal Commissioners for 1-33 the benefit of the District in an amount fixed and approved by said 1-34 Board. 1-35 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999. 1-36 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-37 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-38 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-39 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-40 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. 1-41 * * * * *
