 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to the terms of the trustees of the Canyon Regional Water
 1-9     Authority.
1-10           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11           SECTION 1.  Sections 3.04(a) and (b), Chapter 670, Acts of
1-12     the 71st Legislature, Regular Session, 1989, are amended to read as
1-13     follows:
1-14           (a)  Trustees serve two-year staggered terms [A trustee
1-15     serves for a one-year term].
1-16           (b)  A trustee takes office May 1 of the [each] year in which
1-17     the trustee is appointed.
1-18           SECTION 2.  (a)  Trustees of the Canyon Regional Water
1-19     Authority appointed in 2000 under Sections 3.03 and 3.04, Chapter
1-20     670, Acts of the 71st Legislature, Regular Session, 1989, shall
1-21     draw lots to determine which six trustees serve a one-year term and
1-22     which six trustees serve a two-year term.
1-23           (b)  Trustees appointed in 2001 and subsequent years serve
1-24     two-year staggered terms.
1-25           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-26     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-27     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-28     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-29     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-30     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
1-31     passage, and it is so enacted.
