                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the statutory courts of Denton County.
 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1.  Section 25.0631(a), Government Code, is amended
 1-5     to read as follows:
 1-6           (a)  Denton County has the following statutory county courts:
 1-7                 (1)  County Court at Law No. 1 of Denton County;
 1-8                 (2)  County Criminal Court No. 1 of Denton County;
 1-9                 (3)  County Criminal Court No. 2 of Denton County;
1-10                 (4)  County Criminal Court No. 3 of Denton County;
1-11     [and]
1-12                 (5)  County Criminal Court No. 4 of Denton County; and
1-13                 (6)  County Criminal Court No. 5 of Denton County.
1-14           SECTION 2.  Section 25.0632, Government Code, is amended by
1-15     adding Subsection (j) to read as follows:
1-16           (j)  Section 25.0006 does not apply to a statutory county
1-17     court in Denton County.
1-18           SECTION 3.  Section 25.0633(c), Government Code, is amended
1-19     to read as follows:
1-20           (c)  Notwithstanding Section 25.0003, the County Court at Law
1-21     No. 1 of Denton County does not have jurisdiction over [civil,
1-22     civil appellate,] probate [,] or mental health matters or over
1-23     family law cases and proceedings other than juvenile proceedings.
1-24           SECTION 4.  Section 25.0634(b), Government Code, is amended
 2-1     to read as follows:
 2-2           (b)  A county criminal court has no jurisdiction over [civil,
 2-3     civil appellate,] probate [,] or mental health matters.
 2-4           SECTION 5.  (a)  The County Criminal Court No. 5 of Denton
 2-5     County is created October 1, 2000.
 2-6           (b)  Except as provided by Subsection (c) of this section,
 2-7     this Act takes effect October 1, 2000.
 2-8           (c)  Sections 25.0633 and 25.0634, Government Code, as
 2-9     amended by Sections 3 and 4 of this Act, take effect September 1,
2-10     1999, but only if S.B. No. 1163, Acts of the 76th Legislature,
2-11     Regular Session, 1999, is enacted and becomes law. If S.B. No.
2-12     1163, Acts of the 76th Legislature, Regular Session, 1999, does not
2-13     become law, Sections 3 and 4 of this Act have no effect.
2-14           SECTION 6.  The importance of this legislation and the
2-15     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
2-16     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-17     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-18     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
