HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, For 18 years Tejano legend La Mafia has created and 1-2 performed a singular brand of music for countless fans throughout 1-3 the world, and it is indeed a privilege to welcome the members of 1-4 this internationally renowned group to the State Capitol; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Based in Houston, La Mafia's current lineup includes 1-6 Oscar De la Rosa, David de la Garza, Armando "Mando" Lichtenberger, 1-7 Jr., Eutimio "Tim" Ruiz, and Michael Aguilar; these notable 1-8 musicians have recently completed their much-anticipated new album, 1-9 Euforia, which represents yet another major breakthrough for the 1-10 band; and 1-11 WHEREAS, La Mafia's steady stream of hits runs the gamut from 1-12 heart-wrenching ballads to pop-influenced cumbias to rock-laced 1-13 boleros, and the popularity of the band, dubbed "los idolos de 1-14 America," has continued to grow as more and more people flock to 1-15 join the legions who already are ardent fans of these notable 1-16 Texans; and 1-17 WHEREAS, A two-time Grammy Award winner, La Mafia was honored 1-18 for Best Tejano/Mexican American Performance in 1997 and 1998; the 1-19 band was also nominated for Best Latin Pop Performance in 1995 and 1-20 has been recognized by numerous organizations and associations, 1-21 both in the United States and abroad; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Music is a truly international language, and by 1-23 sharing their uplifting melodies and evocative rhythms with the 1-24 world, the members of La Mafia have made a vital contribution to 2-1 our musical tapestry while having a positive effect on the lives of 2-2 people from many different cultures; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-4 hereby pay tribute to the members of La Mafia for their outstanding 2-5 contributions to the world of music and recognize March 22, 1999, 2-6 as La Mafia Day at the Capitol; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for the members of La Mafia in commemoration of this event 2-9 and as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-10 Representatives and Senate.
