HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, January 16, 1999, marks the grand opening of Midland
 1-2     International Airport's new terminal, and this auspicious occasion
 1-3     is indeed worthy of special praise and recognition; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, This extraordinary 160,280-square-foot structure is
 1-5     designed to meet the air transportation needs of the area into the
 1-6     coming century, and its creation further solidifies Midland's
 1-7     reputation as the region's "Wayport to the World"; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Groundbreaking for the terminal occurred on November
 1-9     19, 1996, following a bond election in which a remarkable 82
1-10     percent of Midland residents voted in favor of the project; no city
1-11     sales or property tax was required to build the terminal, and the
1-12     entirety of its production costs will be funded by passenger
1-13     facility charges on departing flights; and
1-14           WHEREAS, In addition to serving as home to five passenger
1-15     loading gates and two gates for commuter planes and passengers, the
1-16     new terminal also includes a food court, retail areas, a sports
1-17     bar, and a business lounge, and these features significantly
1-18     enhance the ability of the terminal to fulfill its role in
1-19     providing passengers with an enjoyable travel experience; and
1-20           WHEREAS, With the first flight on January 23, 1999, the new
1-21     terminal at Midland International Airport will embark on its
1-22     mission to efficiently accommodate countless business and pleasure
1-23     travelers for many years to come, and it is fitting at this time
1-24     that we join the citizens of Midland in commemorating the
 2-1     inauguration of this splendid facility; now, therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
 2-3     hereby celebrate the grand opening of the new terminal at Midland
 2-4     International Airport and extend sincere best wishes for its future
 2-5     success; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for prominent display in the airport terminal as an
 2-8     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and
 2-9     Senate.
