HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, The retirement of the Honorable Don Cleveland as
1-2 Hood County judge brought to a close the remarkable career of a
1-3 most accomplished public servant, and it is fitting at this time to
1-4 reflect on the myriad achievements of this esteemed gentleman; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Born December 1, 1937, Judge Cleveland graduated
1-6 from The University of Texas at Austin in 1960 and went on to
1-7 attend The University of Texas Institute of Public Affairs,
1-8 completing his course work at the Graduate School of Public
1-9 Administration in 1962; he later attended the Massachusetts
1-10 Institute of Technology's Urban Executives Program in 1975; and
1-11 WHEREAS, From 1961 to 1968 his public service tenure included
1-12 employment with the cities of Austin, Mesquite, and Lancaster, and
1-13 during that period he advanced from administrative intern to
1-14 administrative assistant, assistant city manager, and city manager;
1-15 and
1-16 WHEREAS, Judge Cleveland began working for Republic National
1-17 Bank in Dallas in 1968 but soon returned to the public sector,
1-18 serving as an executive director in the Dallas Area Criminal
1-19 Justice Council from 1971 to 1975 and as assistant city manager for
1-20 the City of Dallas from 1975 to 1982; he then had a five-year
1-21 period of self-employment before selling his company in 1988; and
1-22 WHEREAS, Elected Hood County judge in 1991, Judge Cleveland
1-23 served as presiding judge over the county criminal, civil, probate,
1-24 and juvenile courts, and his valuable work as a member of the
2-1 judicial system was recognized with a Certificate of Achievement
2-2 for excellence in finance reporting; and
2-3 WHEREAS, In addition to Judge Cleveland's membership in such
2-4 professional organizations as the Texas Association of Counties and
2-5 the County Judges' Association, he also actively participates in
2-6 the Granbury Lions Club, serves on the boards of the Lake Granbury
2-7 Chamber of Commerce and the Industrial Development Foundation, and
2-8 is a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Granbury; and
2-9 WHEREAS, This esteemed judge, a devoted husband and father of
2-10 two, will long be remembered as a creative problem solver who
2-11 inspires those around him, and his superb leadership and
2-12 communication skills have earned the respect of all those who had
2-13 the privilege of working with him; now, therefore, be it
2-14 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-15 hereby pay tribute to the Honorable Don Cleveland for his many
2-16 years of outstanding public service and extend to him warmest best
2-17 wishes for continued success and happiness in the years to come;
2-18 and, be it further
2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-20 prepared for Judge Cleveland as an expression of highest regard by
2-21 the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
