                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, Steve Howerton has served the people of Ennis in
 1-2     myriad ways, and his long-standing commitment to the continued
 1-3     economic and cultural development of the city is indeed deserving
 1-4     of recognition and praise; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, On June 28, 1981, Mr. Howerton began his tenure as
 1-6     city manager of Ennis, and through his wisdom and insight, the city
 1-7     of Ennis has experienced tremendous growth; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, His dedication to the economic development of Ennis
 1-9     has garnered great advances for the city, namely an influx of
1-10     industries and the creation of 1,680 new industrial jobs since
1-11     1990; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Devoted to enhancing the community's quality of life
1-13     as well, Mr. Howerton helped to secure a grant through the Texas
1-14     Parks and Wildlife Department that allowed for the construction of
1-15     Bluebonnet Park, a multi-use facility that has provided hours of
1-16     entertainment and enjoyment for the people of Ennis; and
1-17           WHEREAS, This public-spirited gentleman also gives his time
1-18     and support to such valuable organizations as the Ennis Lions Club,
1-19     the Ennis Chamber of Commerce, which he serves as an ex officio
1-20     member of the board of directors, and Tabernacle Baptist Church;
1-21     and
1-22           WHEREAS, The citizens of Ennis have benefited tremendously
1-23     from Steve Howerton's direction as city manager, and in honor of
1-24     the exceptional deeds of this fine man, the Ennis Chamber of
 2-1     Commerce has named January 22, 1999, "Steve Howerton Day"; now,
 2-2     therefore, be it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
 2-4     hereby commend Steve Howerton for his many significant
 2-5     contributions to the city of Ennis and extend to him sincere best
 2-6     wishes for continued success and happiness in the years to come;
 2-7     and, be it further
 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-9     prepared for Mr. Howerton as an expression of high regard by the
2-10     Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
