No. 40 76R4434 JHS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Many proud residents of the city of West will be in 1-2 Austin on January 26, 1999, to celebrate West Day at the Capitol; 1-3 and 1-4 WHEREAS, Named for Thomas M. West, the city was established 1-5 at its present site in 1881; a fire department, bank, cotton mill, 1-6 and several churches were soon built, and the community has 1-7 continued to prosper through the years, while retaining its 1-8 small-town charm; and 1-9 WHEREAS, West is home to a vibrant Czech community, a fact 1-10 that is highlighted each year during Westfest, the city's Labor Day 1-11 weekend celebration of its Czech heritage; residents recently 1-12 enjoyed the successful production of the 23rd Annual Westfest and 1-13 are already making preparations for the last Westfest of this 1-14 century; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A haven for lovers of delicious Czech foods, West 1-16 offers a range of Old World staples, including sausage, homemade 1-17 dumplings, apple strudel, and, of course, sumptuous fruit and meat 1-18 kolaches, which are available in myriad varieties; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Residents of West are justifiably proud of their 1-20 unique Texas city, and the members of these chambers take great 1-21 pleasure in welcoming the citizens of West to Austin and in 1-22 saluting this fine Texas community; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-24 hereby declare January 26, 1999, West Day at the Capitol and extend 2-1 warmest best wishes to all those who have traveled to Austin to 2-2 celebrate this special event.
