No. 44 76R3612 JBR-F HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Edinburg and the Rio Grande Valley have a proud 1-2 legacy of sports competition and dedication to physical fitness 1-3 opportunities for all residents; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Sports and physical fitness programs in Edinburg and 1-5 the Rio Grande Valley have produced college, university, and 1-6 Olympic champions, as well as professional athletes; and 1-7 WHEREAS, South Texas' commitment to participating in sports 1-8 and physical fitness programs is exemplified by such occasions as 1-9 Edinburg's All-America City 10K Run/Walk; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The All-America City 10K Run/Walk was first 1-11 organized by volunteers in 1983 in order to raise funds for the 1-12 Edinburg Boys and Girls Club; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The All-America City 10K Run/Walk has grown into one 1-14 of the largest such events in South Texas, with as many as 800 1-15 people a year entering the race; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Although the competition attracts some of the most 1-17 accomplished athletes from Texas and northern Mexico, it also 1-18 provides recreational opportunities for amateur athletes; and 1-19 WHEREAS, On February 6, 1999, hundreds of runners, joggers, 1-20 and walkers, with thousands of relatives and friends supporting 1-21 them along the 6.2 mile course through Edinburg, will participate 1-22 in the 17th Annual All-America City 10K Run/Walk; now, therefore, 1-23 be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-1 hereby commend the people of Edinburg for their outstanding work in 2-2 support of community involvement, athletic competition, and 2-3 physical fitness and honor the athletes for their participation in 2-4 the All-America City 10K Run/Walk; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for the Edinburg City Council as an expression of high 2-7 regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
