HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Petra Garcia Torres on January 16,
 1-2     1999, at the age of 84, has brought a great loss to her family and
 1-3     many friends and to the community of which she was such a valued
 1-4     member; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Mrs. Torres was born on February 17, 1914, in
 1-6     Gonzales, and for this remarkable woman faith and family were
 1-7     foremost throughout her life; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, She was a devout and longtime parishioner of St.
 1-9     Patrick's Catholic Church as well as a dedicated and tireless
1-10     member of the Guadalupanas, the Sacred Heart Society, and the Altar
1-11     Society; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Though he preceded her in death, her beloved
1-13     husband, Hilario Torres, Sr., was an ever-present force and memory;
1-14     the devotion and love they shared during their years together
1-15     served as an inspiration for their family and friends alike; and
1-16           WHEREAS, The couple was blessed with six children, Ignacio,
1-17     Angelica, Hilario, Jr., Norberto, San Juanita, and Reynaldo, and
1-18     the bonds of family and faith that Mrs. Torres nurtured so
1-19     carefully throughout her life still unite them today and will
1-20     surely do so in the years ahead; and
1-21           WHEREAS, While the warmth and quiet strength of Petra Garcia
1-22     Torres will always be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the
1-23     hearts and memories of the many people whose lives she touched, and
1-24     that spirit was undoubtedly present on January 19, 1999, when the
 2-1     Texas House of Representatives adjourned in her honor; now,
 2-2     therefore, be it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
 2-4     hereby pay tribute to the life of Petra Garcia Torres and extend
 2-5     sincere sympathy to the members of her cherished family: to her
 2-6     children, Ignacio Torres and his wife, Sofia; Angelica Pena and her
 2-7     husband, Luis; Hilario Torres, Jr., and his wife, Anna; Norberto
 2-8     Torres and his wife, Connie; San Juanita Torres; and Reynaldo
 2-9     Torres and his wife, Roxanne; to her 18 grandchildren and 19
2-10     great-grandchildren; to her sister, Eugenia Sandoval; and to the
2-11     many other relatives and friends of this beloved woman; and, be it
2-12     further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for the members of her family as an expression of deep
2-15     respect and high regard for Petra Garcia Torres by the Texas House
2-16     of Representatives and Senate.
